I listened to the game on the radio and couldn’t help but be impressed once again with D Evan Burgess (92). Two more assists against Victoria and the affiliate player now has more points in three games with the Centennials in junior A hockey than he does in 32 games of junior B hockey with Fernie. F Sean Menton (89) also got on the board with an assist in his fifth game as an AP with Merritt. F Dustin Johnson (90) had his three game goal streak snapped, but F Kevin Philp (90) has scored in two straight. Also nice to see both F Gary Rai (90) (nine games) and F Colton Sobchak (90) (seven games) break out of lengthy goal scoring slumps.
It was a much better start for the Cents against Victoria, notching the first goal and going into the second period tied. Unfortunately, that’s when the wheels came off and the Grizzlies scored four straight. Credit the Cents for fighting back in the third period before F Myles MacRae (88) scored the empty netter to put the game out of reach.
The Centennials will bring this gruelling road trip to an end Sunday afternoon in Duncan against the Cowichan Valley Capitals. For D Curtis Gedig (91), it’s his first game against his former team. Our McDonald’s broadcast on Radio NL starts with the pre-game show at 1:30 and the opening faceoff at 2 o’clock. Listen live at 1230 AM in Merritt or on the BCHL Fanzone (if it’s there).
