Coaching Changes in Westside: Darren Yopyk Resigns, Rylan Ferster Hired:

According to Gregg Drinnan’s Taking Note blog (over there on the left), Westside Warriors coach and GM Darren Yopyk has resigned to take a scouting job with the NHL’s Minnesota Wild.

Yopyk, who compiled a 71-38-3-8 recored in two seasons with the Warriors, is being replaced by BCHL veteran bench boss Rylan Ferster.

Ferster spent last season with the KIJHL’s Revelstoke Grizzlies, leading them to a 40-9-0-1 record. He’s previously coached in the BCHL with Salmon Arm (twice) and Victoria. Ferster left Revelstoke in June to work with Troy Mick at the Pursuit of Excellence in Kelowna.

Yopyk’s departure means that nine BCHL teams will have new head coaches behind the bench to start the 2011-12 season.
