Nanaimo-Woodstock Trade:

As host of the inaugural Western Canadian Cup next spring, the Nanaimo Clippers are building for a strong season, not wanting to back into the tournament as the hosts.

They added a big piece to their blueline today, acquiring 18-year-old defenceman Chris Rygus from the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s Woodstock Slammers for future considerations. Rygus is massive at 6’3″ and 209 lbs. plus he has 31 junior A playoff games, including six this past May in the RBC Cup.

He was in Clippers training camp this past week, Nanaimo play-by-play voice Dan Marshall confirmed to me that Rygus had permission from the Slammers to participate in hopes that a trade could be worked out.

Neither team has posted details on the trade on their websites, but it has been posted on both the BCHL and MHL websites.

To Nanaimo Clippers:
D Chris Rygus (93)
