Graham Turnbull Hired as New Vernon Vipers Play-By-Play Voice:

(Turnbull in the booth during a Cents game last season)

The changes in the broadcast booths of the BC Hockey League continued today with word that Merritt Centennials play-by-play man Graham Turnbull has been hired by the Vernon Vipers as broadcaster for the upcoming season.

As the guy who brought Graham to Merritt for his BCIT internship back in 2011 and then hired him to do the afternoon show later that same year, I couldn’t be happier for him to get the opportunity to call the RBC Cup tournament next Spring as the Vipers host.
It’s interesting to note that Graham is the second straight Vipers announcer to move to Vernon after calling games in Merritt as ten years ago this off-season, Todd Miller left the Centennials and Radio NL (as Q101 was known at the time) to call games with the Vipers.

There’s now a play-by-play vacancy in Merritt where Q101 Program Manager Taylor Landry is accepting applications to In addition to the Centennials’ broadcast position being vacant, Surrey, Langley and Trail have yet to announce new voices for the upcoming season.

In total, seven of the BCHL’s sixteen teams have new announcers in the booth in 2013-14.

Here’s the release from Vernon’s website:

The Vernon Vipers are pleased to announce the hiring of Graham Turnbull as the club’s new play by play broadcaster for the coming season.  Graham spent last season with the Merritt Centennials while calling games on Q101 FM in Merritt.

The 27 year old Kamloops native is a 2011 graduate of The British Columbia Institute of Technology’s broadcast radio program and has also spent time with the Chase Chiefs of the KIJHL.

Due to previous commitments Graham will finish up his time with the Centennials during the exhibition season and join the Vipers in time for the beginning of the regular season at the BCHL Bauer Showcase in Chilliwack on September 7 vs Surrey

The broadcast position was left vacant by Todd Miller’s move to Assistant General Manager early last month.
