Cowichan Valley and Trail Hook Up on a Three Player Deal:

Arguably the biggest trade (thus far) ahead of the December 1st CJHL card deadline went down today between the Trail Smoke Eaters and Cowichan Valley Capitals.

It sees the Smokies send 19-year-old defenseman Valik Chichkin and future considerations to Cowichan for 19-year-old forward Mitch Ball and 18-year-old defenseman Rylan Ball.

For Trail, the trade is the fifth this week which sees the Smoke Eaters add three new players and move out five, while also signing one from junior B (18-year-old defenseman Riley Ostoforoff).

To Trail Smoke Eaters:
F Mitch Ball (94) Rylan Ball (95) Cowichan Valley Capitals:
D Valik Chichkin (94) Future Considerations

Salmon Arm Adds Forward Michael Roberts From Trail:

The Salmon Arm SilverBacks got in on the trade action on Friday, picking up 18-year-old forward Michael Roberts from the Trail Smoke Eaters for future considerations.

I figured something was up with the ‘Backs after they moved forward Riley Hunt from their active roster to their reserve roster earlier yesterday.

For Roberts, it’s the third time in 2013 he’s been moved as the Smoke Eaters acquired him from Surrey just over two weeks ago. Back in May, it was revealed that Roberts was part of the future considerations from Vernon to the Eagles as part of last season’s Adam Tambellini trade deadline deal.

Trail Sends Forward Bryce Knapp to Cornwall:

The Trail Smoke Eaters continued to shuffle their roster on Friday, sending 19-year-old forward Bryce Knapp to the Cornwall Colts of the Central Canada Hockey League for future considerations.

For Knapp, who’s from Fort Frances, Ontario, Cornwall is still a 20 hour drive from home, but it’s obviously a lot closer than BC is.

Victoria Brings Back Defenseman Jaden Schmeisser:

The Victoria Grizzlies brought back a familiar face today, with the acquisition of 20-year-old defenseman Jaden Schmeisser from the West Kelowna Warriors.

Schmeisser played 70 games for the Grizzlies from 2011-13 before being moved to the Warriors back in June. He had five assists in 12 games with West Kelowna this season.

Nanaimo Adds Netminder Tanner Kovacs from Whitecourt:

The Nanaimo Clippers shored up their crease just days ahead of the December 1st roster deadline, acquiring 19-year-old Tanner Kovacs from the AJHL’s Whitecourt Wolverines for future considerations.

Kovacs, who’s in his third season of junior A hockey and has four WHL games on his resume, had a 12-4-1-0 record for the Wolverines this season prior to the trade.

Where this leaves current Clippers goaltenders Jayson Argue and Liam McLeod, only time will tell as I’d imagine Nanaimo won’t carry three netminders on its roster.

The trade isn’t posted on either team’s website, either league’s website, but the Wolverines did post it on their official Facebook page earlier today and Kovacs himself Tweeted yesterday about heading to play in Nanaimo.

Trail and Chilliwack Hook Up on 1-for-1 Trade:

The Trail Smoke Eaters weren’t done after trading goaltender Riley Corbin to Whitecourt. The Smoke Eaters also traded 20-year-old defenseman Cody Bardock to the Chilliwack Chiefs for 17-year-old forward Brandon Volpe and future considerations.

Bardock was picked up by Trail from the AJHL’s Sherwood Park Crusaders back on October 18 and got into 11 games with the Smokies, posting five points. He’ll add some major size to the Chiefs blueline.

Volpe has played in 25 career BCHL games, despite not yet turning 18, which he will on December 18th. This is his first season as a regular player after playing six games with Chilliwack as an AP last season.

F Brandon Volpe (95) Future Considerations

To Chilliwack Chiefs:
D Cody Bardock (93)
Here’s the Chiefs release regarding the trade:

The Chilliwack Chiefs have acquired 20 year old defenseman Cody Bardock from the Trail Smoke Eaters in exchange for 18 year old forward Brandon Volpe and future considerations.

Bardock has four goals and one assist in 11 games with the Smoke Eaters this season. The native of Lethbridge also has Junior A experience with the Prince George Spruce Kings and Brooks and Sherwood Park of the AJHL.

“I’m excited about playing in Chilliwack and playing for the coaches there,” said Baddock. “It’s a great organization with an incredible group of fans.”

Baddock is expected to arrive in Chilliwack on Friday.

The Chiefs would like to thank Brandon Volpe for his commitment both on and off the ice and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Trail Gets Down to Two Goaltenders After Riley Corbin is Dealt to Whitecourt:

With Adam Todd close to returning from the injured reserve, the Trail Smoke Eaters found themselves with one too many goaltenders on their roster.

As a result, new Trail Head Coach and GM Nick Deschenes traded 18-year-old Riley Corbin to the AJHL’s Whitecourt Wolverines for future considerations. The move leaves incumbents Todd and Dustin Nikkel between the pipes for the Smoke Eaters.
Corbin only suited up for eight games with Trail, compiling a 2-5-0-0 record.

No release from either team officially on the deal, but the Wolverines did post it on their Facebook page and it is listed under “Transactions” on the BCHL website.
