O’Brien was a 10th round pick of the Rockets in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. He has 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in 38 games with the Spruce Kings this season.

According to the Cougars media release here, GM Todd Harkins has every intention to get O’Brien to sign with the team.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Surrey forward Johnny Wesley was traded in the WHL by the Vancouver Giants to the Lethbridge Hurricanes for 20-year-old forward Zane Jones. He has 21 points (five goals, 16 assists) in 32 games with the Eagles this season.

Forward Mike Ouellette (Merritt, 2000-02) had his contract with EHC Linz (Austria) extended to the end of the 2014-15 season. The Kamloops, BC, native joined the team on a temporary contract in November and posted 12 points (four goals, eight assists).
