BCHL Announces Playoff Schedule, Allows Teams to Pick Best-of-Seven Format:

The BCHL announced on Friday that it would keep the same playoff format as last season, something the league previously announced last June. The playoffs start on Tuesday, March 3 with each of the Division Semifinals.The league has stated that the Division Semifinals will be completed no later than March 11. The Division Finals start March 13 and wrap up no later than March 22. The three-team double round robin in Round Three starts March 25 and is done no later than April 5. The BCHL Championship Fred Page Cup Finals are scheduled between April 10 and April 19.
What’s really interesting about the league’s announcement today is that it is allowing the opposing teams in each best-of-seven series to determine the format. It adds a twist to the playoffs in that it’ll be interesting to see which formats (2-2-1-1-1, 2-3-2, 2-3-1-1, 1-1-1-1-1-1-1) the teams agree on. No doubt travel will enter into the equation.
The top four teams from each division make the post-season, meaning four of the BCHL’s 16 teams don’t get in. As of Friday, Surrey, Cowichan, and Trail are eliminated while Penticton, Vernon, Chilliwack, Langley, Prince George, Coquitlam, Powell River, Alberni Valley, Victoria and Nanaimo have locked up playoff spots.

Forward Ben Maxwell (Surrey AP, 2003-04) will join Kärpät of the Finnish Elite League for the remainder of the 2014-15 season. Maxwell played 46 games for Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk of the KHL this season, posting 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists). He’s played 47 career NHL games with Montreal, Atlanta, Winnipeg, and Anaheim.
Defenseman Kyle Cumiskey (Penticton, 2002-04) is back in the NHL after being called up to Chicago from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. Cumiskey, who won a Memorial Cup with the Kelowna Rockets in 2004, had 11 points (one goal, ten assists) in 38 games with Rockford in 2014-15. He’s a veteran of 132 NHL games with Colorado.
Forward Harry Zolnierczyk (Alberni Valley, 2005-07) was sent back to the AHL by the New York Islanders as he’ll rejoin the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Zolnierczyk played two games with the Isles since being recalled earlier this week, recording no points. The 2011 NCAA Ivy-League Player of the Year has 35 points (13 goals, 22 assists) in 47 games with Bridgeport this season.
Selkirk College has secured its second commitment for next season as Osoyoos Coyotes forward Troy Maclise will play for the Saints in 2015-16. The 20-year-old Lacombe, AB product has played 46 games with Osoyoos this season, scoring 60 points (26 goals, 34 assists).
