I have a strong passion for media and love passing my knowledge and experiences onto my students as an Instructor at BCIT.
Called ‘one of the best PR guys in town’ by former Vancouver Province Sports Editor Jonathan McDonald, I also truly enjoy helping events and sports teams receive maximum media coverage. I’m thrilled to serve as Media Manager for the Odlum Brown VanOpen, which is Western Canada’s largest professional tennis event, and Media Relations Manager for BC Superweek, which is Canada’s biggest professional cycling series.
I’ve been involved in the BCHL in some capacity since 2002. During my nine years living in Merritt, I served in several roles around the Centennials’ organization, including beat writer for the Merritt News, colour commentator on the radio broadcast, plus webmaster, media and communications coordinator and marketing assistant for the team itself. I also spent three years on the Centennials’ Board of Directors with an 18-month stint as Team President. While working for the radio station in Merritt, I started a a blog called ‘Making Cents’, writing about the Centennials.
When I moved back to the Lower Mainland in 2011, I didn’t want to abandon the website, so I renamed it ‘Brian’s Banter’ and changed the focus to strictly be on the BCHL. During the 2012-13 season, I had the pleasure of being hired as colour commentator alongside Jeff Paterson on the TEAM 1040 BCHL game broadcasts.
